Kumarakom Backwaters, Kerala, India. A famous tourist attraction and quite unusual site, Kumarakom is a backwater located in the backdrop of the Vembanad Lake – the largest one in Kerala. Its symbol is the houseboat, which nowadays is used for the tourists’ entertainment.
The first resort here was established in 1881 by the British. Today visitors can find a variety of facilities – from resorts, lined up on the coast, to yachting, boating and fishing. The site is rich with diverse fauna and flora, therefore eco-tourism is practiced in Kumarakom. The place makes you believe in fairy tales again.

The government has declared the site to be a Special Tourism Zone, so expect unforgettable experience. The place is historic and has preserved a lot of authenticity, however, today one can be assured to find modern facilities too.

By bus or taxi from Kottayam railway station, which is 13 km away. The nearest Cochin International Airport is 94 km away.
